Avvio Medical Receives a Dedicated CPT Code for Its Kidney Stone Procedure

The American Medical Association has published the early release of a new Category III CPT code for the kidney stone treatment system being developed by portfolio company Avvio Medical.
CPT code 0991T takes effect January 1, 2026. It gives healthcare providers and facilities nationwide a standard way to report procedures using Avvio’s technology.

Avvio worked with reimbursement strategy consultants Jeffrey Dann, M.D. and PRIA Healthcare on the code application and market access planning.
A code published ahead of FDA clearance means the billing pathway is being built alongside the technology rather than after it. For a procedure designed to move kidney stone treatment out of the operating room, that sequencing matters.
Avvio Medical, Inc. does not currently offer medical devices for sale or distribution and the company's technology has not received market clearance status by the U.S. FDA or any other country's regulatory authority.
